A yearlong study has found that police in Kalamazoo are more than two times as likely to stop black motorists than white motorists.
Published reports say the study by Lamberth Consulting concluded Kalamazoo Public Safety officers racially profile and target black motorists in traffic stops. Chief Jeff Hadley released the results on Tuesday night.
Hadley also has shared results of the study with officers and community leaders.
The study found issues citywide. Dr. John C. Lamberth, founder and CEO of Lamberth Consulting, said in the report that the results should be ``carefully considered by KDPS and changes made in the culture of the organization to assure that this situation does not persist.''
Hadley says recommendations in the report will be part of an action plan by his agency.
