A Muskegon man who has battled brain cancer while studying at Western Michigan University graduated in a private ceremony this week at the Kalamazoo school.
28-year-old Chris Boes received his bachelor of arts degree Monday with WMU President John Dunn, Provost Timothy Greene, Dean Alex Enyedi and nearly every professor who taught him in attendance. Boes was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2009. He studied political science even as he received treatment.
A fall he took in mid-November made it clear that he had to go home even though he had hoped to get his degree in December. WMU officials assured him he completed all necessary work.
